Robert Hart stands on the steel shoulders of his African-American father and grandfather whose American dream came true as Robert helped create opportunities for many people to work in Ford Motor Company’s car, truck and tractor divisions around the world. The Hart family’s roots are in post-Civil War Alabama where they were sharecroppers not far from Tuskegee Institute and the town of Benson. Robert’s father, who was a student of Prof. George Washington Carver, moved the family to Ohio to keep a promise to Robert’s grandfather and grandmother, a promise made in the 1930s after the nearby Scottsboro Boys and Reeltown Massacre incidents.
Robert Hart, a high school and college football player, was born in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio, and he met famous people like the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and baseball greats Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays. Set during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights Movement eras, this is a love letter to the people of Ohio’s Middletown and Oxford cities, the people of Miami University, and the people in the Motor City of Detroit, Michigan, where personnel manager Robert Hart helped many cross the employment goal and achieve their American dream.
